About the American High School, Gothenburg and Halmstad
In Lindholmen, Gothenburg, next to Karlatornet, is our newly built school where we moved in the autumn of 2024. About 590 students study at the school in the Natural Sciences, Technology, Economics, or Social Sciences programs.
The school in Halmstad is located within the Halmstad University area. The school is now in its fourth academic year and has about 160 students studying in the Natural Sciences, Economics, or Social Sciences programs.
About the Position
As a special educator, you will work within the school's student health team and be an important part of the promotion and prevention work. You will also work operationally to support teachers in teaching situations, where classroom visits are an important part on a daily basis. You ensure that students receive the right support and that teachers have the right knowledge to organize teaching so that it is accessible to all students.
You will also work closely with school management and be an extended arm in ensuring that teachers and students have the right conditions to succeed. Together with the school management, you will be responsible for planning and driving the work regarding support at the individual, group, and organizational levels, as well as for students in need of special support. In collaboration with teachers and guardians, you will support the adaptation of studies for students. You will establish action plans and conduct investigations, such as pedagogical mappings, as needed. You will also support principals in school development issues and actively participate in the school's development work.
You will support students with structure, planning, and study techniques. We expect you to have a good familiarity with compensatory aids and competence regarding digital learning tools.
The position is a permanent employment at 100%, shared between Gothenburg and Halmstad. Your main placement will be at the school in Gothenburg, but you will also work a few days a month from the school in Halmstad. The employment begins with a probationary period of 6 months. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.
Your Profile
We are looking for someone who is a qualified special educator, preferably with a teaching license. Previous experience in the profession is a requirement. It is also meritorious if you have worked with high school students. You have experience in establishing action plans and conducting pedagogical investigations, as well as good knowledge of and experience working with students with reading and writing difficulties. You also have knowledge of and experience working with language development approaches.
You have a professional approach in meetings with students, colleagues, and guardians and a good insight into people's different conditions. You find it easy to collaborate and create good working relationships with a coaching and guiding approach. As a person, you are solution-oriented. You see opportunities and always lead challenges and problems towards solutions. You have an overall positive attitude.

You are expected to have good communication skills in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written. You have the ability to use a wide range of digital teaching materials and possess a solid digital competence.
